So I've been remembering my old high school days when my life was Grind, Mentors, Grind, Mentors, Grind, Mentors, Grind, Iron Maiden, Grind, Mentors, Grind, Grind, Iron Maiden. Yeah I know high school kicked ass for me right? People sucked but what are you gonna do aboot that? Anyway lets talk some grind.

Excruciating Terror, Blood, Aborted Christ Childe, and Doomsday 1999 are pretty much the only grind I listen to these days...but I like quite a bit of the genre.

Been listening to a good bit of grind and power violence lately. I tend to run across a lot of shitty nu-metal and metalcore on facebook via local metal groups and promotion pages so I need something to blast all that bullshit out of my head. There is a fantastic youtube channel called "The Grind Show" that posts a bunch of cool shit almost daily if anyone is interested. I tend to refer to it for a lot of my late-night listening sessions and I've discovered some new bands I like as well.

I've been listening to quite a bit of Tacheless and Leng Tch'e over the past month. I also recently heard Maruta and Phobia for the first time recently and really liked what I heard.

I tend to go in phases with grind where I'll listen to it a lot for a short period of time then go for a while only listening to it occasionally.

When I search for Grind I always walk away thinking "why aren't there more bands doing this?" I understand that it's not easily accessible and all that, but that's kind of the point! So many bands talk about how "Brutal" and "Extreme" they are, but you wanna know who's really fucking extreme? Grind bands.

Seriously, what active band is more brutal sounding than Nemesis Complex? Those guys sound like anger + hate x rage. I've been a fan for years, but they're quickly becoming my gold standard for grindcore.

And right on cue, here's a music critic to tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Its Metal sucks, they're nothing but a bunch of pretentious hipster fucks. They dare bash the mighty Blackie Lawless and yet praise wewrestledabearonce. That site should of been taken down instead of megaupload. Further proof that the government is not looking out for anyone's best interest.

That last band was interesting. Even though they have a strong powerviolence/hardcore vibe, I would throw Extortion on that list. One of my favorites.

My favorites are pretty well known... early Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer, Insect Warfare, Nasum.

Some current shit:

Wormrot - Fairly well known, I guess. Carrying the Insect Warfare torch of noisey ass grind.
Cellgraft - They broke up... same type shit. ND inspired fuck your face grind.
Clinging to the Trees of A Forest Fire - Nihilistic, sludge-grind... super fucked up and hard to listen to.

I love grind when I listen to it but don't own a lot of it, any mandatory albums to pick up first?

Terrorizer - World Downfall
First 2 Carcass albums
Insect Warfare - Endless Execution Thru Violent Restitution
Repulsion - Horrorified
Napalm Death - Scum
Mule Skinner - Abuse (maybe OOP)
Any Meat Shits
Any Anal Cunt
Lock-Up - Violent Reprisal

Those all come to mind

It begins and ends for me with Repulsion, Carcass and probably a few other goregrind albums I can't think of right now... I own Terrorizer's debut and Insect Warfare, while they are decent albums I don't really listen to them much anymore. And a big fuck off to politically motivated PC bullshit hefty lefty grind that basically just reminds me of a female teacher with a man's voice throwing a PMS fit, and whining while angrily waving her finger in my face for 30 minutes. I have enough of that bullshit around me in real life. Keep it out of my music please.

Can't really remember Nasum beyond buying and not really enjoying a later album in their discography (could be their final one?) and not really being my cup of tea. It probably comes down to it being because I'm more of a death metal guy though. Smile

Well i certainly suggest you at least download and check out the Grind Finale comp, and the last album, Shift.

They had an extra guitar on Shift, and a Swedish death metal vibe too.

Fornicator's S/T and Whore's Doing it for the Kids. Not pure grind but I would say they're mandatory in this field.

Now that I checked, it does seem like that. Damn.

This distro is holding on to one more copy of the Whore album though:

That shit needs to get reissued. It's damn good. I have the Fornicator Demo too which is equally perverse.
