Most of David Lynch's movies are pretentious schlock. That said, I do enjoy some of them...but I stop trying to "understand" them a long time ago.

I fully agree. When I saw Lost Highway I was floored. Most coherent storyline I have seen him had up to that point.

Well, Penn did portray a character whom I hated viciously and particularly (the Jew lawyer in Carlito's Way), so his quality was certainly not overlooked!

And Eastwood is obviously the master, so there really were no major surprises... just didn't expect the film to be THAT good.

Carlitos Way was great, and Penn shined in that i think.

Carlito's Way is one of my favorite movies. Great. Penn is great in just about every movie I've seen him in.

Eastwood's Gran Torino is another favorite...check it out if you've not seen it.

Yeah... Carlito's Way and Gran Torino are brilliant films.

Saw "Love Actually" today, which was really good. Maybe the best romantic comedy I've seen. Unlike most, it was actually really touching at times, and really funny at times...huh, a romantic comedy that is both "romantic" and a "comedy," imagine that. Bill Nighy was fucking awesome, as usual.

I think the first 20 minutes or so were promising, but it turned far to sugar coated.

Bill Nighy is wonderful, even when his face is covered by penis-like tentacles.

It's a bit like watching Little Fockers because you like big Bob. Skip it.

Bob's been in enough terrible movies that his name shouldn't be enough on its own to justify a watch. Last movie I watched was The Road, which was a grueling experience, to say the least. The story works better as a book, because there isn't much story to speak of; nothing actually happens. It's still good stuff, and Viggo Mortensen is one of my favourite actors. I am totally behind both A History of Violence and Eastern Promises, leaning towards the former.

I just picked up Piranha on Blu Ray, and am excited to see what I hope will be the horror equivalent to The Expendables: big, loud, stupid fun. A terrible movie that knows it's terrible, revels in the fact, and is all the more enjoyable for it. And not in the hipster ironic way that Quentin Tarantino continues to puke out films.

Viggo was amazing in The Road. His best performance i think.

I mini reviewed Piranha on page 1. Check it out. I reckon you'll really dig that film.

The Road was really good. Like most book-> film adaptations, it didn't live up to the book, but it was certainly worth seeing.

The wife and I just saw Black Swan. It was pretty good. Natalie Portman definitely has the performance of her career (so far), and the directing is great (which is no surprise considering who's directing.)

I have now seen two episodes of this so called kids show. Both times I serious thought I was on acid. Whacked out tellatubbies. Wow.

Damn it.

The link originally provided was for The Town, a fairly solid crime drama where Ben Affleck shows he has some modicum of acting chops. He also flexed a competent eye for directing. Though not as nuanced as Gone Baby Gone (a stellar film considering the source material has been so thoroughly mined), it is worth a watch.

Goddammit, I've been trying to finish "Naked Lunch" for three days now and I just can't do it. I keep getting about half an hour into it, thinking "What is this shit, what's going on" and losing interest. It probably doesn't help that I try to watch it first thing after waking up at 7:00, my mind is already barely functioning...aside from the fact that I still have no idea what's going on, I enjoy it. Cronenberg's always fun.

^ That's been on my "to-read" list for a while now. I'm terrible with keeping up with my reading though, I don't do it nearly as much as I should...

Well I finally finished it. Turns out being a little more awake really does help. Laughing Definitely not my favorite Cronenberg movie, but not too bad. I won't be watching it again anytime soon though...attempting to finish it for 4 straight days has really deterred any future viewings...
