I'm thinking this can be the electronic music thread for all those who wish to discuss the genre.

I usually favour the ambient/drone/dark ambient, or the noise/power electronics styles myself.

Today i was listening to this wonderful album.

I'm more of a Drum and Bass listener. This was my first introduction to the genre and I still listen to it to this day:

I like D&B remixes as well:

I also liked Basshunter, Nujabes(Japanese hip-hop DJ with some D&B influence), and others of the like. Some people don't really consider electronic music as "real" music. But the way I see it, if the song keeps your mind young and alive with imagination, then it's artful. One of the definitions of music. Very Happy

Power electronics, harsh noise, some ambient stuff, and death industrial is great stuff. Never cared too much for the dance club junk.

Here's a link for my ambient/noise project's first EP from 2001/2002 (don't remember when it came out exactly).

I'm not sure about the different labels in this subgenre.... eurodance, EBM, industrial, aggrotech, whatever... but here's what I find to be some of the better bands in electronic music. Judging by these bands, I obviously prefer my music to be pulsing, highly rhythmic, melodic, and / or militant...

Kraftwerk
(old) Front 242
VNV Nation (personal favourite)
Assemblage 23
(old) Tactical Sekt
Suicidal Commando
(old) Apoptygma Berzerk
DJ Himmler / DJ Adolf (fuck NSBM... this is the shit!!!)
Wumpscut
Hocico
(old) Psyclon Nine
Funker Vogt
Feindflug

VNV NATION

DJ HIMMLER

KRAFTWERK

TACTICAL SEKT

ASSEMBLAGE 23

I've been getting into Dubstep lately. Mostly stuff like Excision, or Big Chocolate, but Burial is awesome too. way chill.

Also Fuck Buttons is badass, little bit noisey, totally sweet.

Hell yeah dubstep is awesome. I like Reso, Benga, Mimosa, Ital Tek amongst others. I've tried multiple times to get into Fuck Buttons but I just can't. Holy Fuck is good, more minimal and ambient like electronics but pretty chill otherwise.

And for Electronic/dance: Caribou is fuckin' awesome, Memory Tapes is good shit too, and Teen Daze is fun

Non- God and Beast is pretty much the alpha and the omega of electronic music.

Been on a pretty huge Phantogram kick lately. Hoping I have the money to see them again this weekend.

I have a friend thats into Goa trance and gave me a Shpongle album because it deals with Terence Mckenna, but I don't really dig this type of music so it will probably just fester on my comp till I decide to delete it. I had a bad experience with this stuff so I write all of it off as shit. Better safe than sorry.

I'm kind of interested in finding more electronic stuff. I've done some searching on my own and it seems that most of what I've found has either been annoying and cheesy dance/techno shit, or dubstep (which I also consider shit, although I did kind of like Burial), or weird goth/emo Rammstein-lite shit. I kind of like more militant, repetitive, noisy sort of stuff. I looked up Fuck Buttons and liked their harsher moments, but just found myself sort of bored throughout most of their songs. Basically if I could find something like Anaal Nathrakh/Axis of Perdition/etc, I'd be happy. They have some electronic elements but still stay really harsh and creepy. I guess I kind of like the whole inhuman concept of electronic music, and really want to see that maxed out with all this intense stuff that's unable to be realized in more organic music.

I know I like Wumpscut and Front 242, and I like anything with a lot of bass (there's a lot of DNB remixes of songs I like, and occasionally I'll find an original DNB song I like too), but I basically can't find something new that doesn't make me want to roll my eyes for one reason or another. Suggestions?

I have a friend who switched from metal to dubstep and electronic. I don't understand exactly what happened, and when I asked him he said something like "I just wasn't angry all the time anymore."

Well, I listen to Behemoth because I like it, not because I want to destroy the world and shit.

Anyway, he suggested Skrillex and Deadmau5. I can't post links yet, or I would. There's some decent Skrillex stuff on youtube, but the Korn collaboration is kind of gay. Deadmau5, only thing I liked from them was Sofi Needs A Ladder.

I really like Celldweller, and I think you might too. When I get the rights to post links I'll put some up.

I'm still trying to figure out how the fuck he went from Behemoth to dubstep, personally.

Skrillex is alright, but let's just say I don't have any bought or downloaded. I like Celldweller a whole fucking lot though.

Me and a friend checked out 5 seconds of a skrillix song and it was one of the gayest things I've ever heard. I'm just waiting till this trend dies.

Some of it, I like, but some of it, such as the "bass cannon" or whatever the fuck it is, isn't even music. I'm also sort of hating that it's a fad. Fucking Hastings has a "featured" section and it's got a shitload of Dubstep. Now, the new CoC was there too, but still.

After my experience with the culture, fad or not I don't need it and I don't like it.

Dubstep tends to do nothing for me.

Too slow to use as dance music, and to clunky to chill with.
